Such\u00a0information are\u00a0extremely importa<strong>nt<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>\u00a0to monitor variations of\u00a0<span style=\"caret-color: #ffffff;\">biologica<\/span>\u00a0and environmental parameters<\/strong> through time and detect the effects of climate change. With the aim of knowing the mechanisms and extent of degradation in marine\u00a0environment, some cages containing plastic and bio-plastic\u00a0materials have been placed on the\u00a0sea bottom (depth = 10m). To\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff; caret-color: #ffffff;\">deeply<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u00a0understand the ecosystem functioning and processes in marine\u00a0<span style=\"caret-color: #ffffff;\">environment<\/span>, long term observations (e.g., daily, weekly,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff; caret-color: #ffffff;\">monthly, seasonal, multi-annual) obtained via high-tech monitoring systems\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">are the tools for acquiring big amount of data (<\/span><strong style=\"color: #ffffff;\">BIG DATA<\/strong><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">). Since the big quantity of data gained, post-acquisition systems based on <\/span><strong style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Artificial Intelligence<\/strong><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"> (AI) are needed to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff; caret-color: #ffffff;\">automatically<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u00a0extract\u00a0validated data from the operating\u00a0<strong>marine observation systems<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff; font-size: 17px;\">CNR-ISMAR and INGV collaborate with the Bay for studying the consequences of the presence of the plastic in marine environment<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">. In 2019, a study on the absorption of organic persistent pollutants (POPs) in marine\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff; caret-color: #ffffff;\">environment<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u00a0has been carried out in three\u00a0sites of the Gulf of La Spezia, in\u00a0collaboration with Cooperativa dei Mitilicoltori Spezzini, Piscicoltura Portovenere SOC.
